The field for the MLG Championship at Dallas might be the densest of any Tekken tournament ever, with the some of the very best talent from around the world showing up to compete. In addition to the talent on display in the All-Star Classic, the Open Bracket was full of impressive competition and notable matchups.
Big Name Winners
Today we saw several top US and International players who have not been to many of the previous Events this Season, but are still very heavily favored to make it to the Championship Bracket. Aris (Dragunov) is widely regarded as one of the best US players, but he hasn�t competed in any MLG Events since Orlando. He made it through Day 1 of the Open Bracket undefeated, despite facing stiff competition. His most notable opponent was Pokchop (Bruce, ranked 12th). Aris defeated the self-proclaimed �New Mouth of the South� 3-2. One of Aris� 3 wins was a God Match , meaning he got three Perfects in a row.
Top Japanese player AO (Alisa) also had to play in the Open Bracket, since this is his first MLG Event. He proceeds to Day 2 with relative ease. He defeated veteran Texas players Vick (Lars) and NeoX (Lars). Both players, who used to train with Kor (ranked 2nd) and Crow (ranked 5th), will be in the Losers Bracket tomorrow.
Big Name Losers
Several players who were expected to do well, or at least make it to Day 2, been served early exit papers. The most notable of these is MYK (Lars, Steve, ranked 21st). Texas is not a place to get easy wins, and Ramin (Steve) taught MYK this the hard way. He defeated MYK with his own character. MYK was not able to recover in the Losers bracket, losing to Renikon, a Law player from New York. When asked about his tournament performance he simply stated, �It wasn�t my day.� The other notable player was The Game (Law, ranked 36th), from New York, who had his tournament run cut short by Vick from Texas.
Big names are sure to collide on Day 2, and this matchup in particular is one you will want to pay attention to, as one of Korea�s best goes up against one of America�s best: JDCR (Heihachi, Bryan) � Korea versus Naps (Bryan, ranked 10th).
