The Darkness 2 este o mare supriza, The Darkness fiind un titlu subapreciat, iar la asta se poate adauga si lansarea de acum 3 ani. Chiar daca predecesorul sau nu a fost jucat de foarte multi oameni, inregistrand vanzari de aproximativ 700.000 unitati conform site-ului VGChartz, The Darkness 2 exista si pare chiar interesant. Digital Extremes, producatorii jocului, se concentreaza pe modul SP al jocului, povestea jucand un rol foarte important. Actiunea va juca insa un rol la fel de important, fiind o componenta ce nu poate lipsi unui FPS. Si vom putea savura povestea in timp ce urmarim festinul grafic, The Darkness 2 urmand sa beneficieze de un engine nou si de un look cell-shaded.

The Darkness received favorable reviews from critics. Most praised the single player campaign, the story, and the game's graphics across both platforms, but warned readers about unreasonably bad lag in multiplayer sessions and advised to ignore multiplayer altogether until a patch is released. The Darkness received the "Game of the Month" award in the August issue of Game Informer.
Hyper's Daniel Wilks commends the game for its "brilliant storytelling, looking great and excellent level design". However, he criticises for its "weak physics engine and some AI problems".
