We are taking a number of steps to prevent future breaches, including enhanced levels of data protection and encryption; enhanced ability to detect software intrusions, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns; additional firewalls; establishment of a new data center in an undisclosed location with increased security; and the naming of a new Chief Information Security Officer.

We told the subcommittee about our intent to offer complimentary identity theft protection to U.S. account holders and detailed the “Welcome Back” program that includes free downloads, 30 days of free membership in the
PlayStation Plus premium subscription service; 30 days of free service for Music Unlimited subscribers; and extending PlayStation Plus and Music Unlimited subscriptions for the number of days services were unavailable.
We are working around the clock to have some PlayStation Network services restored and we’ll be providing specific details shortly. We hope this update is helpful to you, and we will continue to keep you posted as we work to restore our network and provide you with both the entertainment and the security you deserve.

IMPOSIBIL, deci repet IMPOSIBIL ca Sony sa nu stie care a fost problema, IMPOSIBIL. Pai daca ma apuc sa fac un program si il lansez catre public, daca unul vine si imi zice ca programul meu nu ruleaza pe win7 de exemplu iar eu stiu ca merge, il iau de la el si vad ca e modificat, imi dau seama. E scris bit cu bit de mine, n-are cum frate. Astia care au creat si intretin PSN-u sa nu vina la noi sa ne zica ca habar n-au. Ca dureaza reparatul mai mult e altceva... Le e rusine ca probabil un fost angajat i-a compromis sau probabil bresa din securitatea lor era prea banala si nu s-au obosit s-o inchida la timp. Parca chiar ziceau ceva de asta, ca stiau de un flaw in securitate.
Daca un hacker poate sa sparga la foc automat un site (ca tot s-a vorbit de Anonymus) nu stie Sony unde si ce lucreaza

Si PSN e inca "undergoing maintenance"... Deja s-a trecut si limita penibilului, mai ales ca tot nu avem niste informatii oficiale care sa ne spuna macar cand va reveni serviciul. Stie cineva ceva ? Ma refer la ceva solid, oficial, nu zvonuri.

We’re still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system. Verifying the system security is vital for the process of restoration. Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online.
As you’ve heard us say, our utmost priorities are the security of the network and ensuring your data is safe. We won’t restore the services until we can test the system’s strength in these respects.
When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system. We know many of you are wanting to play games online, chat with your friends and enjoy all of the services PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have to offer, and trust me when I say we’re doing everything we can to make it happen. We will update you with more information as soon as we have it. We apologize for the delay and inconvenience of this network outage.

Sony has broken another promise, originally they planned to restart the PSN network this weekend as per their previous 'press releases' earlier this week, but were quickly forced to delay the re-launch of the PSN and SOE networks as the previously rumored 'third wave' attack did infact start to appear tonight!

This time, the still unknown 'hackers' started their 'third wave' attack by accessing an old unused Playstation website from 2001, and publishing what they found on other public websites, a complete list of all the contest winners with over 2,500 very detailed personal information, it not known at this time if more attacks are still coming in against other Playstation websites.

In trying to stop this new 'third wave' attack, Sony shutdown more of their servers, and are now thinking of 'offering a reward' to bring these trouble-making 'hackers' to justice, as Sony has had no luck in tracking them down for almost a month now!

Eu eram conștient �ncă de la �nceput că va dura mult mai mult remedirea dec�t menționaseră cei de la Sony.

Situația nu este at�t de simplă pe c�t pare �n ochii unora. On 7 May 2011, Nick Caplin, head of communications at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, posted the following update on PlayStation.Blog at blog.eu.playstation.com:

Pai depinde de ce jocuri e vorba. Nu vreau un titlu din 2011 dar ar putea da si ei macar un joc mai de calitate, desi mai vechi (stiu eu, Uncharted 1, Killzone 2, inFamous sau LittleBigPlanet, daca tot sunt facute de SONY, sau alte titluri de genul, mai vechi dar bune). Decat "Arcade-uri" mai bine mi-ar oferi o tema dinamica.

Mai bine nu promit de loc decat sa se intample cum banuiesc eu.
Cel putin un joc dintre ele ar trebui sa fie 'de clasa'. Nu stiu ce ar presupune asta, macar un Killzone 2 sau Uncharted 2.
Dar pana la urma, asa cum a amintit si un alt user, nimeni nu sta cu limba scoasa dupa pomeni, asteptam ca PSN-ul sa-si revina si sa mearga mai bine ca niciodata.

PSN “End of May” Stories – Don’t Panic | Gaming News and Opinion at TheSixthAxis.com

We’re seeing stories appear around the web about the PSN not returning until the 31st of May. After a quick dig deeper, it seems that these stories have all sprung up after a statement made to Bloomberg by Shigenori Yoshida in which he states that the company’s plan to return full services by the 31st May is unchanged.

Many stories we’ve seen are concerned that what that statement means is that the PSN will not be back online before then – making it six weeks of total downtime for the service. We’re more inclined to believe that the statement is actually just a reaffirmation of the previously stated goal to get the Store up by the end of the month. Other services were supposed to start rolling out last week but have obviously missed that rough target. We still expect that Sony are working to get those services up and running long before the Store’s targeted reinstatement at the end of the month.

Hopefully SCE can cut this speculation off quickly by offering another statement on the issue as soon as possible. They do seem to have gone quiet again since missing the deadline for some resumption of services.

The latest headline to join the population of Silly-Town: “PlayStation Network Offline For Six Weeks, Says Sony”. Just like the stories on plain-text passwords, unencrypted credit cards and unpatched servers, the actual news is a little misleading.

The news stems from comments Sony made to Bloomberg early this morning. The outlet reports that a Sony Japan spokesperson, Shigenori Yoshida, said that the PlayStation Network would be “fully restored by May 31st,” while the company adopted a new, improved security system.

Many outlets — which we won’t name out of a professional capacity — have failed to understand that this is the same message Sony has been stating since Kaz Hirai’s press conference last Sunday. It does not mean we will have to wait six weeks for online gaming at all. Indeed, the “by May 31st” comment merely implies the latest possible date we can expect full service from the PSN to resume — including the PlayStation Store. Sony previously stated that they would roll the PSN back out in two phases, starting with online gaming and following with the PlayStation Store.

Absolutely nothing has changed.
