The Just Cause creator is working with each next gen console right now, and says that in terms of pure specifications and working environment, PS4 is the preferable console. But with Xbox One’s cloud capabilities and further developer support coming, Sony can’t claim an early victory just yet.

We asked Avalanche’s chief technical officer Linus Blomberg how the two consoles compare. “It’s difficult to say, as it’s still early days when it comes to drivers,” he told us. “With each new driver release, performance increases dramatically in some areas. The PlayStation 4 environment is definitely more mature currently, so Microsoft has some catching up to do. But I’m not too concerned about that as they traditionally have been very good in that area. The specs on paper would favour the PS4 over the Xbox One in terms of raw power, but there are many other factors involved so we’ll just have to wait and see a bit longer before making that judgment.”

PS4: Mark Cerny to discuss console’s creation at GameLab conference | VG247

PlayStation 4′s creation will be detailed by the console’s architect Mark Cerny at this year’s GameLab conference, taking place between June 26-28 in Barcelona.

GI.biz reports that Cerny will give the talk, which will deliver fresh insight into the PS4′s creation, and he will also be awarded the conference’s yearly ‘Industry Legend Award’ for his contribution to gaming.

Sony adverts running in theMetro today confirms that the PS4 will definitely launch in 2013 in the UK (and Europe, we can assume).


When the PS4 was announced in February Sony would not confirm that the "Holiday 2013" date given applied to the whole world - historically, there's been a delay between Playstation launches in Japan, the US and Europe. But at least in the UK, it looks like we'll have it in time for Christmas. Hurrah!

A ieșit review pe Arstechnica.com (se pricep) la procesorul AMD din PS4 și Xbox One. De fapt ei au testat varianta 4 core a aceluiași chip. Cu regula de 3 simplă, ajungi la concluzia că un Core i5 (de laptop, dual core cu hyperthreading) la 3 ghz e de două ori mai puternic decât acel AMD în forma în care e pe console (cea 8 core, folosindu-le pe toate)

While pre-E3 events and big game announcements at E3 will help core gamers decide on which platform to get next gen, advertising will play a major factor in the success of the PS4 and Xbox One among the average consumer.
One big advertising rumor for Sony is “Greatness Awaits“, which we may see used in ads closer to launch, but now PSLS has uncovered two more trademark listings.The first is: “The Best Place to Play”, which seems like a pretty self-explanatory slogan – The PS4 is the best place to play games. The second is “Push the Boundaries of Play”, which Sony already used a variant on when they were upstaging the Xbox One reveal.
What’s most promising about both of these advertising slogans is that they are about videogames. With the Xbox One event moving away from games and focusing*on TV shows, there has been a growing concern that the PS4 may end up following suit.

Discussing the differences between PS4 and Xbox One with Eurogamer, Stewart Gilray, who is working on a secret PS4 game at Just Add Water, said:

"We might see slightly smoother framerates on PS4. We're working with Sony right now, and they're trying to actively push 60 frames per second, 1080p.

"You might get situations where the graphics will be a little, but not much, lower quality on the Xbox One," he continued. "Or, you might get some fixed at 30 frames per second situations in 1080p. It depends on the scale of the game.

"If your game is going to push the heck out of the PS4, you might have to do some little tweaks [for the Xbox One version]. But if you design your game to work on Xbox One at 60, it's going to work on PS4 at 60."

GDDR5 is only currently available in 512MB chips, so the console will need a whopping 16 of them. It’s no wonder Sony hasn’t unveiled the PS4’s case yet – maybe it’s even bigger than the Xbox’s.
