Video Shows Gran Turismo 5 Has Painfully Slow Load Times [Update]
The realistic driving simulator isn't out until this November. Heck, the game isn't even finished. But a video of a recent demo shows sluggish loading times.
According to this video of a Nurburgring demo, GT5 takes over a minute and a half to load. This track is quite long, so that might be a factor in this lengthy load time. It could also mean that shorter tracks have shorter load times.
This video was filmed by French GT5 site GT5rs. Note: These demo load times have not been directly confirmed by Kotaku.
But if GT5 does in fact suffer from long load times, all is not lost! With a couple months left and GT developer Polyphony Digital still hard at work, there is hope that these horribly long load times can be significantly reduced. Hope, people, hope.
Update: Some readers have pointed out that this video may be slowed to give the appearance of longer load times. Make of it what you will!

More GT5 NASCAR Information
G4TV released a new Gran Turismo 5 preview yesterday and aside from more car porn, a few interesting tidbits pertaining to NASCAR could be seen for a few seconds. We spotted five items worth noting in the screenshot below;
1.While we’ve seen a lot of NASCAR footage in GT5 previews, and we’ve heard a lot as well, it appears we’ll only get to race 8 cars per race. While the game can run “up to” 16 cars a race, that doesn’t appear to apply to NASCAR.
2.The attention to detail. We know Polyphony Digital are perfectionists, but this is some insane stuff. Here you see the Target decals on the pillar, exactly where it is in real life. We can’t wait to get this game in-house and have a full look around the cockpit.
3.Mirrors are an interesting feature in racing games. You’re essentially rendering the game from a different perspective in real-time while the player races. Here we see both the main rear-view mirror and the side mirror many drivers rely on due to the constraints of their racing seats. And of course everything in the mirrors is rather detailed.
4.It may be hard to see but it appears to be the right hand of the driver. Now, drivers are nothing new in Gran Turismo but it’s the small things that add up to make a great experience. Last we checked, however, all drivers in-game will be GT branded.
5.We’re not sure how old the G4TV preview build was but it appears Polyphony Digital still has a bit of tweaking to do if they want to get it absolutely right. Here you can see the lap time is a 47:700, which is about 1.675 seconds faster than the pole speed set by Juan Pablo Montoya at Indy a few weeks ago. Granted, the game still has a few months before it ships, but it’ll be interesting to see if PD fixes this or not.
That all said, and we don’t mean to throw EA under the bus here, but this could very well be the best NASCAR game to come along for fans in years, and that’s saying a lot considering this isn’t a full-fledged NASCAR game. While 8 cars on track seems a bit low, we’ve also been promised heavy damaging to these cars so it would make sense that the developers needed to limited what was on screen. Whether these are the final numbers, only PD know, so we’ll have to wait until November 2nd to find out.

In ceea ce priveste faza "nu pot sa cred ca dupa atatia ani de development... asa si pe dincolo", am incercat sa explic aici si aici de ce nu iese deloc la calcul cand aduni tot ce s-a lucrat la GT5 de cand a fost anuntat jocul prima oara si pana in ziua de azi. Pur si simplu, cand pui un studio de 100 si ceva de angajati la un joc, nu are cum sa le ia atatia ani. Pppppunct. Inainte sa-mi sariti in cap, va rog cititi ce am pus in linkurile alea, pot spune ca am ceva experienta de lucru pe proiecte mai mari (de design, asta-i doar un exemplu, se aplica si la alte domenii de activitate) impartite pe bucati, pe mai multi oameni, fiecare om avand bucatica lui de rezolvat.mi se pare patetic ca dupa atatia ani de lucrat la el sa scoata doar 200 de masini cum trebuie, iar restul sa fie doar de umplutura... care dupa cum au zis unii, nu vor avea nici cockpit.
mai bine nu le scoti decat sa ai doua categorii si sa te lauzi ca ai bagat in joc 1000 de modele de masini.

Karting, Monza, Skidmarks & More in GT5 Gamescom 2010 Demo: Full Details
Thanks to our team at Gamescom 2010 (and a new YouTube video uploaded by PlayStation Spain), we’ve got an early scoop on the contents of the latest Gran Turismo 5 demo on display -- confirming some of the game’s most exciting new features. GT5’s new karting mode is revealed, along with the debut of the Autodromo Nationale Monza circuit! Andreas of InsideSimRacing also noticed that skidmarks are visible on the tarmac (see video above, though it’s not from Andreas), and a non-functioning “course maker” option was visible in the menus.
