New Battlefield 3 Details, 100,000 Weapon Combinations, Day & Night Maps + More | N4G

Q: What can we expect for PC requirements to run BF3?
A: We’d love to tell you, but we’re not quite ready to release minimum specs just yet. I can tell you that the specs will not be anything crazy or Crysis-like. More details to come.

Q: Will we see the command rose or something similar?
A: That’s a good question! We do offer a lot of set up and customization on the PC for people to decide how they want to play. I’m not exactly sure how we’ll be doing the command rose.

Q: Will there be a server browser for consoles?
A: There will not be a server browser for consoles. We just recently announced "battle log" which is PC based but it’s a really friendly community tool. It allows you to branch out with friends and set up and join private matches. It’s also great for E-Sports, if you’re playing competitively, because it’s going to work with MLG and ESL and all those partners. So you’ll be able to authenticate matches without having to take screenshots and all that kind of stuff because the data feed is going to be encrypted and secure and be sent to them.

Q: How many weapon customizations can be expected?
A: Thousands! Probably tens or hundreds of thousands. This is the biggest battlefield we’ve ever made so the customization is huge and open. There’s three slots on every weapon so you can clip things on like a flashlight or flash suppressor, tons and tons of things. Optics… I can’t even believe how many optics they’ve gotten into the game.

Q: Will there be day and night cycles in multiplayer and if so how will they work?
A: Not so much cycles, instead we have day and night maps.

Today also marks the last day of E3, a lot has been uncovered about BF3, and this is more to add to the list! Also revealed is that jets will not be available in TDM and Rush modes. The maps simply are not large enough for jets, the jets will be in Conquest though. We'll have more post E3 coverage of Battlefield 3 in the coming days.

    Cum functioneaza clasele:

Welcome to the second installment of the Battleblog, a blog series taking you all the way to the launch of Battlefield 3 on October 25th! In this blog series, youll learn more about every aspect of our biggest shooter ever. This time out is a look at the classes found in multiplayer with Senior Mulitplayer Designer Alan Kertz.

Here at DICE, were very proud of the team play functionality that we have become known and loved for in the Battlefield series, and were continuing to embrace that approach for Battlefield 3, but not without a few upgrades for the new game. In Battlefield 3, were making sure each of the four playable classes (Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon) are each completely capable of holding their own in combat. While they each have different specialties, each class is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

If youre that kind of lone wolf player who simply wants to jump in and cook some fools, thats perfectly fine were making sure each class in Battlefield 3 packs a mean punch on their own, giving you another chance to play it your way. However, were also hard at work fine-tuning each class and their unique team play capabilities, so squads in Battlefield 3 will be able to function tightly, giving even more reasons to team play than ever before.

As mentioned, the four classes available in Battlefield 3 are Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon. All classes include familiar elements, but this time around, were tweaking things a bit, bringing something new to our online multiplayer. Our Assault class is still the frontline run and gun class, and considering the havoc and fallen team members someone will see while on the frontlines, the Assault soldier now has medic abilities. Thats right, all the abilities such as medkits and defibrillators typically found on the Medic class are now incorporated into Assault. It makes sense that the class on the frontline will be able to revive fallen team mates, right? Right! Remember, you can play it your way, so if you want to customize your Assault soldier more towards medic abilities or towards serious gunplay, its totally up to you.

Engineers are returning in Battlefield 3, bringing back the class in charge of making repairs to the various vehicles on the battlefield. On the other hand, the Engineer is very adept at taking down vehicles as well this class includes RPGs that can take down armored targets that cant be destroyed by bullets alone, or even building facades that enemy combatants may be using to take cover. Add the fact that an Engineers arsenal includes Carbine weapons, you get an extremely versatile multiplayer class that can truly move like a butterfly and sting like a bee.

The Support class makes its return in Battlefield 3, incorporating the ability to use light machine guns and can lay down heavy fire, allowing him to become a serious mobile weapons platform. Support has always been about heavy infantry firepower from his LMG, says Alan Kertz, Senior Multiplayer Designer at DICE. Its a role that weve wanted to feel different than Assaults running and gunning.

This brings us to two new features in Battlefield 3: Bipods and Suppressive Fire. Bipods have a very practical use, especially for LMGs, as they provide a substantial increase in stability while laying down a base of fire. Bipods can be deployed anywhere by zooming in with your LMG when prone, or when standing/kneeling in front of suitable supports, such as a window sill. The stability created by deploying a Bipod gives players a massive boost in accuracy and recoil reduction. Youll be able to unload an entire clip of 200 bullets from your LMG with great accuracy without even letting go of the trigger, all thanks to the Bipod.

Suppressive Fire is a new in-game mechanic that changes how you can play the game. When you lay down fire in close vicinity to an enemy, the incoming barrage will show up as a graphical blur effect on his screen to stress him and let him know its not safe to pop out from behind cover. Just as importantly, this mechanic also affects his characters in-game firing accuracy, making him less of a threat by using real world tactics. Better yet? You get team play experience points for doing so!

Supported shooting with Bipods and Suppressive Fire finally allows us to achieve an obvious difference between Assault and Support, since the heavy LMGs are not terribly mobile, explains Kertz. When deployed with a Bipod, they become an incredibly powerful force. Suppressive Fire forces the enemy to keep their head down and lets the Support gunner pin his enemies in place so teammates can flank.

Love him or hate him, Recon is the long range sniper class for Battlefield 3 who excels at gathering intel while on the battlefield. His sniper scope gives this class a distinct view of the battlefield, making Recon particularly suited for spotting enemies as seen in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, ensuring your entire team can see the locations of spotted members of the opposing team. Recon traditionally has been seen as just a sniper, Kertz said. We wanted to change that perception, so weve built several completely new teamplay oriented gadgets specifically for the Recon class so he can be a team player, even if hes sitting on the top of Wookie Mountain. Well talk more about these toys and how they work in a blog post a bit further down the road.

Even though each soldier has a default loadout, theyre there for you to completely customize, making sure youre able to cater to your own unique style so you can play it your way. Well be able to talk more about unlocks, persistence and customization later in the Battleblog series, so stay tuned for more on Battlefield 3 soon!

It might not be Electronic Arts or DICE, publisher and developer of this fall's Battlefield 3, respectively, but an anti-fan of the Call of Duty series. It might be a former Call of Duty lover spurned by Activision's ultra-popular war game or a Battlefield convert.

It's almost definitely someone quick enough to snatch the Modern Warfare 3 domain name before Activision could claim ownership. The domain is currently owned by an anonymous entity, registered through a proxy and housed on web hosting provider HostGator's servers.

Until last week, ModernWarfare3.com simply hosted an anti-Call of Duty video and the following screed stuff with the standard complaints about the Infinity Ward and Treyarch-made series:

Modern Warfare is crap. On November 8, 2011, the most over-hyped first-person action series of all-time returns with the copy and paste sequel to the lackluster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Check out the E3 2011 gameplay demo featuring the Black Tuesday level for a look at the epic fail of the campaign. Pre-Order Call of Duty MW3 Today for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC to secure exclusive bonuses only available online for Modern Warfare 3 fanboys who don't know that Battlefield 3 is the better game.

Now, the domain simply redirects to DICE's Battlefield 3 site, a change that went into effect this past Friday but was spotted earlier this week by a whole lot of people today. (Oh, thanks for all the tips, tipsters!)

Web site domain watcher Fusible.com has been keeping an eye on the domain for the past few months, reporting that the switch occurred after previous host iPage shut down the web site. Prior to that, the owners of ModernWarfare3.com attempted to gain a following on Facebook and by soliciting e-mail addresses from Call of Duty fans through a newsletter sign up form.

As Fusible has pointed out previously, Activision does not own the domains ModernWarfare.com, ModernWarfare3.com or ModernWarfare4.com. At least someone was enterprising enough to officially lock down ModernWarfare2.com.

Fans in both camps have been disparaging each other's preferred game well in advance of the official announcement (and leak) of the next Call of Duty, but Battlefield fans make have the most effective troll in whoever owns ModernWarfare3.com. So who does own the domain that should probably be Activision's? That's what we're trying to find out.

News: Battlefield 3: 'We can do earthquakes in multiplayer' - ComputerAndVideoGames.com

Battlefield 3 developer DICE has again talked up the technical prowess of its Frostbite 2 engine, and teased the chaotic prospect of putting terrain-deforming earthquake into its new multiplayer mode.

Speaking to PSM3 magazine, lead multiplayer designer Lars Gustavsson confirmed the quakes seen in impressive single-player demos are "technically possible" in Battlefield 3 multiplayer games.

"We're still looking into ambient destruction in multi-player; it's still too early to say really," he told the mag.

"It's technically possible to have earthquakes in multi-player using Frostbite 2. We feel like kids walking into sweet shops with Frostbite - it has so many features we never knew we needed, and we're still figuring out how best to use them.

"It's just the start for this engine. So far, the only limit to the things we can do with it are our own creative restraints."

The Swedish developer's made no secret it wants to stick to the series fundamentals for Battlefield 3, saying it has "no urge to innovate for the sake of innovation."

Some fans might be concerned by the decision to combine Medic and Assault classes then, but Gustavsson argues it's the right move:

"Our main thinking with the medic class is that we want more people in the game, playing, than sat in the spawn menu," he said. "So, the more chances we give team mates to help with things like revives, the better.

"We constantly evaluate where people are on the battlefield - and as we saw it in Bad Company 2, Medics were rarely equipped to be on the real frontline. It was the Assault class that people took to the front, so it seemed natural to combine the two."
