    Mă gândeam că politica asta a lor de garanţie ar trebui să se muleze după client, nu după ţara de origine a aparatului, dar în fine. Ei sunt şefii.

    Stiu ca e cam devreme, dar poate cineva estima cand va aparea o scadere de pret a consolei? Asa sunt astia saraci, asteapta cu ochii-n soare...

    Iti zic eu cum e treaba: pe piata din UE sunt mai scumpe produsele ca pe piata din SUA sau ca pe piata asiatica si nu le convine ca europenii sa cumpere de pe alte piete. E chestie de marketing.

    Scadere de pret la PS4? Cand ei nu fac fata cererii si mai peste tot vezi pre-order epuizat? Nici cea mai mica sansa... Cel putin in primul an, e un lucru aproape imposibil! Poate doar cate un bundle mai interesant, dar scadere de pret la consola propriu-zisa, no way!

    Sony's Loaning PS4 Development Kits to Indie Studios for Free - Push Square

    Microsoft’s latest Xbox One-Eighty has changed the conversation yet again. Overnight, the firm confirmed that it will allow self-publishing on its next generation platform within the system’s first year on the market. That puts the console in line with the PlayStation 4, but the Redmond-based organisation’s trump card is that it will allow budding programmers to transform their retail machines into development kits. While the details are still hazy, it could be huge news.
    However, having spent the past couple of years actively coveting indie outfits, Sony doesn’t seem massively concerned by the sudden change in attitude. “Self-publishing has been available on PlayStation platforms for over five years, so it's nothing new,” a spokesperson told Polygon. “The process of developers bringing their games to market has continued to evolve, and PlayStation has led the charge in adapting and embracing new publishing rules.”
    All true, but with Microsoft supposedly allowing small studios to test their code on a retail machine worth $500, does that suddenly put the PS4 at a disadvantage? Yes and no – development kits for the Japanese giant’s console supposedly cost $2,500. The thing is: none of the indie studios working on the next generation system have bought one yet, as the platform holder is loaning them out.
    “All of the indie studios that I know got them for free,” an unnamed developer said. “Sony has been amazing about kits and development thus far.” Another added: “They are handing them out like candy.”
    Of course, the act of giving away kits is not a direct counter to Microsoft’s newly-announced policies. Theoretically, anyone will be able to create, test, and publish content on the Xbox One, while securing the requisite hardware for the PS4 will probably depend upon past successes and prototypes. The disparity will leave the platform holder with some thinking to do.
    At the end of the day, though, we still don’t really know how the Redmond-based manufacturer’s solution will work. Corporate vice president Mark Whitten has said that everyone will have access to all of the console’s features and functions, but we’ll have to wait and see if there are any caveats along the way. With Microsoft being purposefully vague, and the functionality not set to be ready at launch, Sony has plenty of time to turn the needle back in its favour while its competitor catches up.

    PlayStation 4 gives up to 5.5GB of RAM to game developers

    PlayStation 4 reserves 3.5GB of its 8GB GDDR5 memory for the operating system, leaving 4.5GB of space for game code, according to current PlayStation 4 documentation shown to Digital Foundry by a well-placed development source. However, further sources suggest that an additional 1GB of "flexible memory" may be reclaimed from the OS reservation, based on availability.

    Current Sony SDK docs say that 4.5GB is the baseline amount of guaranteed memory available for game makers - and most likely what the lion's share of launch titles will be using.

    aia a fost o confuzie, au inteles "seven" in loc de "several" din discursul nu stiu cui.

    Asta e o alta mancare de peste si e foarte trist daca e adevarat.

    Cum Dumnezeu de la 4gb = 3.5GB joc + 0.5GB OS s-a ajuns la 8GB = 4.5GB joc si 3.5GB OS? Astia sunt batuti in freza? Atata banet aruncat pe GDDR5 ca sa fie folositi ca ram pentru diverse procese si aplicatii de catre CPU? DDR3 e mai mult decat suficient si ieftin pentru asa ceva.

    Mai bine puneau 4gb gddr5 shared intre cpu/gpu pentru jocuri si 4GB DDR3 pentru CPU/OS! In felul asta scapau de o groaza de probleme si bani aruncati pe fereastra. gddr5 ca ram pentru cpu cu lantenta aia mai mare e cea mai proasta gluma cand exista ddr3 care e mult mai adecvat pentru astfel e lucruri.

    sper sa nu fie adevarat ca isi dau cu toata firma-n cap

    Mda... trebuia sa mai vina si Sony cu bile negre... nu doar Microsoft. No offense, e un FreeBSD pt. desktop... ce draci face cu 3.5GB RAM eu unul nu inteleg (mai mult decat orice Windows). Initial se discuta ca OS-ul si toate cele necesare pt. PS4 consuma maxim 512MB RAM. Mai mult, postase un developer acum nu mult timp cum ca ei deja folosesc 6GB RAM pt. jocul lor... Acum se prostesc cu limite d-astea? Pacat!

    First off, I know all you guys want are hard numbers and I don't have them. But I do know the philosophies in place currently. If you would like to use your brain and think critically about things... keep reading. If you want to get into a 5>4.5 OMG IM CANCELLING MY PREORDER conversation - this thread won't help you, in either direction.


    I was told by a couple of Devs in the lead up to E3 that the OS footprint was "bigger than expected" but not a single one of them complained about it. No one is in danger of running out of ram. As some people have mentioned in this thread - games like the The Last of Us are happening with 512mb of ram. Launch titles, of all things, are not going to be pushing the hardware in any sort of way... and that includes ram.

    So why is the ram footprint bigger than expected? It's fairly simple - Sony is hedging their bets. They were absolutely caught with their pants down with their OS this gen. Not having the memory overhead to do things like Party Chat gave Microsoft a huge advantage when it came to online gaming, which is obviously a growing sector. So much like $399 as a target price was a reaction to $599 being a disaster... "big OS footprint" is a reaction to "small OS footprint" being a disaster.

    But the thing that I'm hearing and I believe there was even a line dedicated to this in the eurogamer article is that these numbers aren't set in stone. The fact of the matter is that high end PC games use around 3gb of ram and use higher res textures (art tends to take up the largest chunks of ram) than the ps4/x1 do. The idea that launch games need 7gb of ram is absolutely ludicrous. 4gbs is fine. Anything more, at this point, is overkill. It won't be overkill forever... but it's overkill for now.

    So Sony gets to sit on this chunk of ram, be in 1gb or 3gb - again, I don't know the numbers. I don't know if eurogamer is right (I do know at E3 that some thought more ram would be freed up when the final dev kits shipped... but I don't know anyone working with a final dev kit). But Sony is coming at this from a position of power. They don't need the ram currently so they get to take a wait and see approach before saying "ok, devs, you guys get this." The systems will launch and they will look at what people are doing with their own OS, they will see what features people are asking for, they will see if microsoft or Nintendo (or even steam) come out with some surprise feature that catches fire - and if it does they will have the memory there to be able to do it also. If it doesn't that chunk of ram gets freed up for developers.


    This thread is looking at this entire thing like the endgame is the day it launches. That's day one, guys. This is a long term strategic move and, imo, a smart one. They are putting themselves in a position to be able to adapt... something they couldn't do with the ps3. I know as gamers all we want to hear is higher numbers. But find me one developer that thinks the ram available to them on either system isn't enough (and this goes for the x1 as well guys... all this 5gb hurr hurrr stuff is fanboyish nonsense that you can go through my post history and see I never took part in once).


    I feel like this post is far to philosophical for this thread of LARGE NUMBER > SMALL NUMBER, but hopefully this info is useful to some of you. Sony have created a nimble system and this is part of that philosophy.

    E cam hazardata ideea asta cu "Sony pastreaza RAM blocat pt. viitor". Ca vor optimiza RAM usage-ul in timp, asta e altceva, dar sa tina cineva RAM-ul degeaba, ar fi aberant. M-am luat de Microsoft si ma iau si de Sony. Pai daca e asa, hai sa vina si Windows-ul sau MacOS-ul la fel. Din start sa ocupe 4GB RAM... 2-3 stau degeaba si nu pot fi utilizati. Dar nu, de fapt nu stau degeaba... ii tin Microsoft si Apple acolo pentru viitor, ca poate vor veni cu functii noi. Come on... that's bull...

    Ma atragea ideea asta cu 8GB RAM tocmai pentru ca ramanea foarte mult pentru development. Atat de mult incat am fi inceput si noi sa vedem inovatii. Ganditi-va ca pana si pe PC, foarte multe features dispar pentru ca nimeni nu vrea sa conceapa un joc care sa nu ruleze in "doar" 4GB RAM (care de fapt sunt 2-3GB RAM disponibili, restul pt. OS). Si treaba cu 8GB pe consola suna al naibii de bine pt. ca se depaseau niste limite si nu ar mai fi fost nimeni constrans.

    In fine... eu deja m-am plictisit de joaca asta de-a "alba-neagra". Mai ramane sa anunte ca baga DRM-ul la loc si-l fac region locked...
